In Lucknow, a retired IAS officer has lodged a theft complaint against his son and daughter-in-law. In a complaint lodged in the Gomti Nagar extension area, he has accused his son and daughter-in-law of criminal treachery and stole Rs 24 lakh in cash and several gold ornaments from his flat. Former IAS officer Madanpal Arya has said in his complaint that his son Rajat Arya and daughter-in-law Barkha, a resident of New Delhi, came to his flat in the last week of February and requested me to let them stay with me.

"Rajat and Barkha told me that they had suffered heavy losses due to lockdown and had a debt of several lakh rupees," he told the police. I got emotional and have agreed to keep with me. On 27th March, I went to Lakhimpur Kheri for some personal work. After which, on the night of 30th March, Rajat called me and told me that he was leaving. I asked Rajat to give Rampal the key. After which, when I returned on April 1, I found Rs. 24 lakh in cash, 1 gold watch, 4 gold bracelets, 3 gold chains, gold bangles, and 1 locket missing from the cabinet.

He added, "After which I called my wife for questioning whether she had kept them elsewhere and then called the SHO of Gomti Nagar to inspect the spot." We have registered a case of breach of criminal betrayal and are taking action in the case," said Pawan Kumar, SHO, Gomti Nagar Extension.
