New Delhi: The court has issued an arrest warrant against senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh in a defamation case. Shiromani Akali Dal (Shi'ad) leader Bikram Singh Majithia had filed a defamation case against Sanjay Singh in 2016. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Harsimranjit Singh on Monday issued an arrest warrant against Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP and national spokesperson Sanjay Singh in the case.
On behalf of Sanjay Singh, his lawyer had filed an application seeking exemption from his presence, which was rejected by the judge following which an arrest warrant was issued. It may be recalled that a defamation case was filed in January 2016 for alleged defamatory statements of Sanjay Singh at a rally in Moga on September 5, 2015, in which Majithia was linked to the drug case accused.
Shiromani Akali Dal (Shi'ite) leader Maheshinder Singh Grewal was scheduled to record his statement in the court on Monday and then cross-examined by the defense counsel. The court has now adjourned the matter for hearing on September 17.
