Chandigarh: More than 400 cattle have lost their lives and nearly 20,000 cows have been infected due to Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) in Punjab in the last month. Now, the department has also issued an advisory to protect the animals from infection. Ram Pal Mittal, joint director of the Punjab Animal Husbandry Department, said, "Barnala, Bathinda, Faridkot, Jalandhar, Moga and Muktsar are among the worst affected districts of the state.'' At the same time, Mittal said, "The first confirmed case of 'Lumpy' skin disease was reported in Punjab on July 4. Punjab has so far registered around 20,000 cases of LSD and 424 cattle deaths.''

What is Lumpy Skin Disease- In fact, it is an infectious disease, which is spread by the bites or direct contact of mosquitoes, flies, lice, etc., or by contaminated food or water. Apart from this, it also poses the risk of losing all the symptoms in the animals as well as their death. Let us tell you that most of the information about the infected cows has come from gaushalas and dairy farms. In fact, according to the notification issued by the Animal Husbandry Department, the animal infected with a Lumpy should be isolated from others to avoid the possibility of spreading the infection from it.

Apart from this, the advisory says that the movement of such animals should also be restricted. At the same time, the animals affected by lumpy should be given green fodder and a liquid diet. It is being said that animal owners should maintain cleanliness and spray disinfectants in the enclosure of animals.
