Pirasudan, a native of Nannilam in Tamil Nadu's Thiruvarur district, who wrote lyrics for songs for over 400 films, died on Friday at his residence in Chennai, reportedly due to age-related illness. He forayed into Tamil cinema with the song 'Rasathi Rosapu', which was sung by late music director M S Viswanathan for the 1984 film Sirai.

Condoling the demise of Pirasudan, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed on Twitter that Pirasudan was held in high esteem by the late Chief Minister M Karunanidhi. “The passing of poet Kalaimamani Pirai Sudan, who made his mark in the film industry, is shocking. He had worked with music directors from different generations and wrote thousands of songs that would never fade with time. This is a great loss to the Tamil film fraternity,”Stalin

The late poet has worked with many popular musicians like MS Viswanathan, Ilaiyaraaja and Deva. A recipient of the Tamil Nadu State Film Award, he has written lyrics for several devotional songs as well as the title songs of several Tamil television serials. Some of her famous works include 'Meenamma Meenamma' from the Rajinikanth-starrer Rajadhi Raja; 'Nadanthal Irandadi Irunthal' from Prashanth's Chembruthi; 'Atma Therotama' from actor Vijayakanth's Captain Prabhakaran; and 'Ennai Thottu Alli Konda Mannan Peru Ennadi', sung by composer Ilaiyaraaja and sung by late playback singers SPB and Swarnalatha.
