Due to shortage of vaccine doses in Madhya Pradesh, the vaccination plan for July 2 has been dropped, as per reports.
The National Health Mission (NHM), in a face-saving measure, clarified that, as Friday is ‘no-vaccination day’, session sites would be planned for July 3. However, when the three-day vaccination drive was planned, there had been no whiff of Friday being a ‘no-vaccination day’. And no sooner had the three-day plan been chalked out—and the drive kicked off—than the second day’s vaccination plan has been dropped midway. According to health department sources, 50 lakh doses are needed each week for running the vaccination drive smoothly.
During the pan-India vaccination campaign, over 50 lakh doses were available. This was the reason why Madhya Pradesh had crossed the 2.11 crore vaccination tally. If vaccination doses were to be supplied at this rate, the entire lot of eligible beneficiaries could be vaccinated by year-end.
