On May 20, 2016,the Madras HC granted provisional bail to former DMK Minister K R Periyakaruppan,his son and 10 others in link with an assumed happening of violence amid campaigning in the run up to the May 16 assembly polls in TN.

Justice Gokul Dass of the Madurai bench directed him to emerge prior to the police station worried and sign daily till extra orders.

Periyakaruppan, who challenged from Tiruppattur Assembly constituency, has won the seat for the third time in a row.

The suit has been recorded besides all of them for pelting stones  at AIADMK workers amid election campaign at Pallthur on May 13.

Fearing arrest, they had filed anticipatory bail application on May 18.
