CHENNAI: Madras High Court has refused to extend the parole of Nalini, convicted in the murder of former PM Rajiv Gandhi. Nalini Sriharan came out on parole for a month. She petitioned Parole for the daughter's marriage, which was accepted by the Madras Court on 5 July. The court has made a condition that during this time she will remain in Vellore and will not talk to the media and any leader. Nalini petitioned to extend the parole by 15 October. Nalini's daughter lives in London.

For Parole, Nalini had said that every convict deserves a simple leave of one month after a two-year jail sentence but she has not taken leave even once in the last 27 years. Nalini, who has been imprisoned for a long time, is serving a life sentence in the Rajiv Gandhi murder case. Nalini had asked for parole of 6 months but got only one month's parole. The Madras High Court has also dismissed a petition by Nalini Sriharan.

Nalini had demanded the release of all the convicts based on the 2018 decision of the Tamil Nadu government. At the same time, the High Court dismissed the petition of Shriharan saying that he cannot direct the Governor to take action.
