Madurai: On Tuesday morning, Balasubramanian, the Deputy Secretary of Naam Tamilar Katchi party for Madurai North District, was brutally hacked to death while walking in the BB Kulam area, according to the police.
Madurai City Police Commissioner Loganathan stated, "It appears that this murder is linked to his family issues. An investigation is underway, and an FIR will be filed shortly."
Police sources revealed that Balasubramanian had a criminal record with three pending cases against him. Initial findings suggest the murder might be due to personal enmity.
This incident follows the recent murder of Armstrong, the Tamil Nadu chief of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), who was killed near his residence in Perambur, Chennai. The Chennai police suspect that Armstrong’s murder involved associates of gangster Arcot Suresh, who was killed in August last year.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), North Chennai, Asra Garg, stated, "We have arrested eight people after thorough interrogation and analysis. We have seized seven blood-stained weapons, a Zomato t-shirt and bag, and three bikes used in the crime."
ACP Garg noted that associates of Arcot Suresh believed Armstrong was behind Suresh’s murder, leading to a suspected motive for Armstrong’s killing. The Chennai police formed special teams to investigate the case thoroughly.
One of the accused, Thiruvengadam, was killed in a shootout near Madhavaram in Chennai on Saturday night while attempting to flee police custody. Thiruvengadam had been monitoring Armstrong’s activities before the murder and was taken to retrieve the weapons used in the crime when the shootout occurred, the police said.
