The Magh Mela lasting 43 days has been released in Prayagraj. Kalpavas has also started with this. The tradition of Kalpavas has been going on since time immemorial. It is believed that the Kalpavas of a month beginning with the sun entering Capricorn in Prayag gives the virtue of a Kalpa. During the same Magh Mela, Kalpavas has special significance on the Sangam coast. It is believed that Kalpavas should be done only when the person has been freed from the worldly fascination and has fulfilled the responsibilities. This is because when a person is caught in responsibilities, self-control becomes a bit difficult on him. In the Padma Purana, Maharishi Dattatreya has described the complete system of Kalpavas. According to him, Kalpavasi should follow 21 rules.

Observing Fast is a very important part of Kalpavas. During the same Kumbh, a law is observed to keep fast on special days. The fasts are divided into 2 categories - Nitya and Kamya. Continual fasting refers to fasting in love of God without any desire, whose inspiration is on spiritual upliftment. Kamya fasts are the fasts done for the attainment of any desired fruit. During fasting, it is necessary to fully observe the 10 parts of the religion. These are the 10 religions - patience, forgiveness, renunciation of selfishness, not stealing, physical purity, sensuality, intelligence, learning, truth reading, and non-violence.
