With the advancement of medical science, life has become easier for sure. There was a time when dealing with a fracture was quite a task, but with the invention of magnetic surgical cement, dealing with spinal fractures has become much easier.
Spinal fractures are usually caused due to tumors or osteoporosis. Such patients have to be treated via kyphoplasty. It is a process in which Surgical Cement is filled inside the fracture.

Where on one hand, Kyphoplasty is known to cure and deal with bone fractures, on the other hand, it renders the cancer patients with persistent spinal column tumors. These tumors are hard to be treated via conventional chemotherapy, the issue is its inability to cross the blood-brain barrier, whenever an intravenous dose of the same is injected.

At the University of Illinois at Chicago, studies were made that postulated that if we added magnetic particles to the cement, it would aid in the cure of spinal fractures. It was also informed that the magnetic particles are guided towards the spaces where they are required to reach. These nanoparticles are associated with drugs that are carried along.

In this process, the minute amount of drug is bound to particles, which are then targetted to the cancer cells.
