Mary Kom, who is the ace in women boxing. Mary Kom turns a year old on Thursday. Her birth name was Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte. She is an Indian Olympic boxer hailing from the Kom tribe in Manipur. She is a five-time World Amateur Boxing champion, and the only woman boxer to have won a medal in each one of the six world championships. She is the only Indian woman boxer to have qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics, competing in the flyweight (51 kg) category and winning the bronze medal. She has also been ranked as No. 4 AIBA World Women's Ranking Flyweight category. She became the first Indian woman boxer to get a Gold Medal in the Asian Games in 2014, South Korea.

 

In the last 5 or 6 years, Mary Kom has become one of the most successful female boxers in the world with her performances is different tournaments including the Olympics, however not many people are aware of the fact that when she appeared on the scene as an 18-year-old she showed the world what she was capable of. She went into the World Amateur Boxing Championship as an outsider who might just make up the numbers but she surprised everyone when she ended up winning the silver medal in her category.
