Mumbai: Rajendra Bhagwat, the secretary of the Maharashtra Assembly, has informed all state legislators that the governor has ordered that the special session that was supposed to take place on Thursday not to be held today.

The only agenda on the special Assembly for today is a Trust Vote against the Maha Vikas Aghadi government, which is led by Uddhav Thackeray, who resigned as chief minister late on Wednesday.

In a circular, Rajendra Bhagwat, Principal Secretary, Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, informed all state MLAs that today's special session will not be held since, following the Governor's directives, there is no longer a need for a floor test.

The Shiv Sena appealed the Floor Test that Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari called to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court, however, declined to delay the Floor Test and stated in its observation that the only way to resolve these democratic issues was on the House floor.

Thackeray addressed the state's citizens via social media shortly after the top court's ruling and announced his decision to resign as chief minister and a member of the Legislative Council.
The statement put an end to the state's political crisis, which began when a faction of Shiv Sena MLAs rebelled against him for forming the government with the NCP and Congress.
