After losing the last bet in the game, the Pandavas made preparations to go to exile. Along with this, Kunti goes with her sons and daughter-in-law Draupadi to ask for permission to depart from Kuruya Rajya Sabha Ganga Putra Bhishma, Vice-Chancellor Kripacharya, Acharya Drona, and Hastinapur King Dhritarashtra towards the forest. Kunti would have left for exile with her family without taking orders, but she comes to show everyone in the Rajya Sabha that what happened to the Pandavas has humiliated the Singhasan of Hastinapur. Only Duryodhana and Shakuni are happy in the Rajya Sabha, everyone else is bowing their heads and waiting for Kunti and Pandavas. Kunti, along with her sons and Draupadi, comes to Rajya Sabha to take permission from everyone before going to exile. Along with this, Kunti, Draupadi and Pandavas are wearing simple clothes. Dhritarashtra questions Kunti on hearing Kunti's voice in Rajya Sabha. On this, Kunti says that "Living in the royal palace where her kulvadhu, does not suit a Kshatrani." Then Vidur comes forward and requests his sister-in-law to honour Kunti by staying in her hut.

He also explains to Yudhishthira and Yudhishthir obeying Kakashri, tells everyone on behalf of himself, his brothers and Draupadi and takes orders to go to the forest. Kunti starts crying, Arjun will promise to return to Kunti. The five Pandavas and Draupadi take the blessings of Kunti and they depart towards the forest. The time cycle starts, the five Pandavas and Draupadi wander one by one, all together make a hut for themselves. There Bhishma has kept his room dark in Hastinapur when Vidur comes there and Bhishma prays to him to stop the darkness that is coming in Hastinapur. Vidur feels compelled to say that he did a lot of effort but has failed.

Bhishma, on hearing Vidur's words, sends him to Dhritarashtra with the message that the Pandavas have been gone for 13 days, and in some circumstances, 13 days can be counted as 13 years. If Dhritarashtra does not accept Duryodhana's instructions, then Bhishma asks Vidur to persevere. Vidura comes to Dhritarashtra with Bhishma's orders and says that "Today the Pandavas are completed 13 days of exile, and according to the scriptures, 13 days are considered as 13 years in a special situation. So Maharaj if you Sending an envoy to call them back here, Dhritarashtra gets angry on hearing this because he is afraid that Duryodhana will commit suicide when they comes back. Along with this, in a fit of anger, Dhritarashtra even tells Vidur that if you want you to go to them. Hearing this, Vidur is heartbroken, Gandhari tries to convince Dhritarashtra but he is not ready for fear of war. Vidur leaves from there without taking Dhritarashtra's permission.
