Jaipur: The Congress has shifted at least 18 candidates of its alliance 'Mahajot' to Jaipur as soon as the Assam elections are over. Rajasthan is currently ruled by the Congress-led by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. In fact, Congress fears that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may lure potential candidates who have registered victory before the counting of votes on May 2.
The Congress feels that the BJP may lag behind the majority figures in the Assam assembly elections and the party is eyeing candidates from their coalition Bodoland People's Front and All India United Democratic Front who are likely to win. Because a candidate from BPF had joined the BJP even before the elections and distanced himself from the election. Assam Minister and veteran BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma is believed to be involved in the breach in Congress.
Sarma had predicted to win 100 of the 126-member assembly, but after the elections, he has said he will win 84 seats. However, if, as per the claims, the BJP gets seats, there will be a return to the government. But, Congress estimates that it will bring more seats than the BJP and there could be a gap of fewer than 6 seats between the two parties which could spoil the game.
