Mumbai: The severe rain in Mumbai is now affecting train movement. The Mahalakshmi Express has been stuck in water between Revengepur and Wangni station for a long time. About 700 passengers were on board the train. The NDRF team has evacuated more than 600 passengers from the Mahalakshmi Express. That includes 9 pregnant women. A team of 37 doctors is also present on the spot.

It may be mentioned that the train leaves Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminal at 8.20 p.m. After an 11-hour journey, the train arrives at Kolhapur at 7.25 am the next day. On the night of July 26, the train left Mumbai at the scheduled time. Meanwhile, there was heavy rain in Mumbai and adjoining areas. The train, which travelled 53 km, arrived at Kalyan Junction at 9.37 p.m. with a delay of 17 minutes.

By this time the rain had intensified. The tracks of the train started sinking into the water. However, the train travelled 22 km and reached The Wangni station. But the whole night passed in to cover this distance. Takriban, a 77 km distance, and the train stopped near Wangni station in 9 hours. It was 5:30 a.m. when it reached The Wangni station. The water on the track had reached the stairs of the train as it soared. The train has been parked there since 5:30 a.m. and relief work is on.
