Mumbai: The new Motor Vehicles Act came into force on September 1 in the country. There is a very strict provision of fine in this rule. Due to which many opposition-ruled states initially refused to accept it. But now gradually BJP ruled states are also reviewing this law. After Goa, Gujarat, and Karnataka, the crucial electoral state Maharashtra also decided to review the fines imposed under this law.

In fact, Shiv Sena leader, BJP's ally in the state, and state Transport Minister Diwakar Raote had announced a unilateral moratorium on this law. Due to which CM Devendra Fadnavis was angered. CM Fadnavis also indicated during the talks a review of the fine amount without strictly compromising the Act. A few days after Raote's request to reconsider the heavy penalty under the amended provisions from the Center and a moratorium on its implementation, Fadnavis said that sometimes he had to come forward with some decisions from colleagues of the allies.

The Chief Minister said that many times some of my cabinet colleagues from fellow parties take decisions which I have to defend. Raote's decision was about policy. Therefore, this should have been discussed with me and the entire cabinet. Please note that after the implementation of this rule, there have been reports of recovery of large fines from all over the country.
