Maharashtra: Power subsidy scam, 15 steel factory getting 65 percent rebate

Maharashtra: There has been rampant corruption in power subsidy to industries in Maharashtra which has recently come across the government officials. Out of 1200 crore power subsidy given by the State Government under the information received in the case, 65% subsidy went to 15 steel factory owners while small and medium factories could not get the benefit. You all must be aware that the Government of Maharashtra provides electricity subsidy of about Rs.1200 crores to the factory production units of Marathawada, Vidarbha Department and OTHER BACKWARD DISTRICTS every year. Since 2016, only 15 veteran factory owners have been taking advantage of this. Meanwhile, small and medium businesses are not getting government subsidy, forcing them to migrate to neighbouring states. About 35 production units have been closed so far.

Moreover, many factory owners have declared themselves bankrupt and closed the business. Now, due to closure of the factory and migration, the State Government is estimated to have lost about Rs. Most importantly, the subsidy of Rs.1200 crore sanctioned for the year 2020-2021 expired in the month of December itself. Talking about the recent power waiver to backward areas other than Marathawada division, a Finance Department official said, "It has been communicated to state finance minister Ajit Pawar a few days ago. They are very angry. He asked how only 15 people are getting the benefit of subsidy. Pawar has sought full details in this regard. A review meeting in this regard is scheduled to be held soon.''

In fact, in Vidarbha, Marathwada and other backward districts, only 15 veteran industrialists are taking advantage of the power subsidy. A letter has been written to the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister in this regard.
