Gadchiroli: A woman Naxalite has been killed in an encounter between Naxalites and security forces in dense forests in the Naxal-hit Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra. An official said here on Monday that the success took place in the afternoon when a team of C-60 commandos was conducting a search operation in the forests of Phusar-Garangi near Potegaon and the Naxals hiding there started firing indiscriminately at them. , after which the security personnel retaliated.
However, shortly after the encounter began, the Naxalites fled the scene taking advantage of the thick bushes, while the commandos tried to chase them, searching the area and found the body of an unidentified woman Naxalite and some Naxalite literature. Police suspect that four to five of the escaped Naxals may have been injured. According to Shailesh Balkavade, Superintendent of Police, Gadchiroli, efforts are on to identify the dead woman and the Naxalite outfit for which she worked.
Balkavade said that since the injured Naxalites can seek help from local villagers for treatment, they should immediately inform the police so that the Naxals can be arrested. Monday's incident comes at a time when police are celebrating Tribal Development Week and security personnel have increased their patrolling in the affected areas of the district.
