Maharashtra government of CM Uddhav Thackeray is seriously considering imposing Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) on illegal gutkha businesses. State Home Minister Amit Deshmukh gave this information by tweeting.

In his tweet regarding this matter, he said that the government is seriously considering to find out the masterminds of gutkha trade in the state and impose MCOCA on them. Along with this, he said that instructions have been given to the local Food and Drug Administration and the police that gutka cannot be stored nor transported anywhere. Instructions have been given to the authorities in this context. The sale and consumption of gutkha is banned in the state in the year 2012.

Apart from this, some time ago Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray praised former CM Devendra Fadnavis and BJP leader Nitin Gadkari during an event. He credited both of them for taking steps for the development of the state. Significantly, the Shiv Sena formed the government with the opposite-minded Congress-NCP after separating from the BJP, which was a long-time ally. Now Uddhav's statement has sparked speculation.
