Maharashtra government issues SOP for Diwali due to Corona crisis

New Delhi: Maharashtra is facing the worst outbreak of corona in the country. Before Diwali, the Uddhav government has urged the people of Maharashtra to celebrate Diwali with simplicity. The Maharashtra government has issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), urging people to celebrate cracker and noise-free Diwali. Apart from Maharashtra, several states including Delhi have banned the sale of firecrackers to control Covid and reduce air pollution.

The Maharashtra government has asked people to avoid firecrackers and noise. The Rajasthan and Delhi governments have already banned the sale of firecrackers. The number of corona-infected people in Maharashtra is around 17 lakh and so far more than 44 thousand people have died. There are 1.13 lakh active cases also. Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope appealed to the people to take care of themselves and their family during festivals and cold weather. He said that avoid crowds and celebrate pollution-free Diwali. Maharashtra government issued SOP even before Ganeshotsav, Eid and Dussehra, urging simplicity to celebrate the festival.

Just a day before, the Maharashtra government has given permission to open a theatre, swimming pool, gym outside the containment zone. Guidelines have also been issued in this regard. Theatres have already been allowed to open in many states including Delhi. The Delhi and Rajasthan governments have also banned the sale of firecrackers and have requested people to celebrate Diwali in a calm manner.
