Mumbai: Uddhav Thackeray government of Maharashtra is going to implement the policy of care for children for their protection and rehabilitation soon. The state's Women and Child Development Minister Yashomati Thakur has given information in this regard. The minister said that this foster care policy will not only be for orphaned children, but also for children who need care and protection. Since every child needs care in the family, it is also his or her right. Therefore, this policy is a program where the child is provided with a house for some time.

Yashomati Thakur said that under this policy, parents who raise children will be selected on the basis of their ability, intention, and prior experience of caring for the children. The selected families will be trained to meet the needs and rights of the children. She said that the foster family would not be permanent and would not have any judicial authority over the child. The Minister said that guidelines in this regard have already been prepared and after proper training of various stakeholders, its implementation will be started soon.

She has said, 'Care and protection of children is very important. This policy will be implemented as a trial in Mumbai suburban areas, Solapur, Pune, Palghar, and Amravati.' A district-level committee under the leadership of the District Magistrate will make a list of the foster parents and submit a report on whether they are fit to provide care to the child.
