New Delhi:  On Maharashtra Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent his best wishes and noted that the state is endowed with a wonderful culture and diligent citizens who have enriched national progress in a variety of fields.

Eknath Shinde, the chief minister of Maharashtra, presented floral tributes to the heroic souls who gave their lives to build Maharashtra on this day, the 63rd Maharashtra Day.

The celebration of Maharashtra Day, sometimes referred to as Maharashtra Diwas, commemorates the linguistic division of the "Bombay" state into Gujarat and Maharashtra. A number of demonstrations and initiatives that called for the establishment of a separate state led to the passing of the Bombay Reorganisation Act on May 1, 1960.
