Mumbai: Former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh was scheduled to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) today but did not. Yes, under the information received, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had allegedly summoned him to inquire into the money laundering case involving a racket involving bribes and extortion of crores of rupees. In fact, the ED summoned Anil Deshmukh for his stay in the Mumbai office of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) till Saturday, 11.00 p.m. As per the information received, a team of Deshmukh's lawyers has reached the office ED in response to the summons.
Anil Deshmukh's lawyer Jayanwat Patil is said to have made a statement. Talking to media, he said that he has sought some time. He also said that the ED today has not given any date on when Anil Deshmukh will be called. Anil Deshmukh's lawyer says he has been exempted from appearing in the ED office. However, no details related to the case have been revealed by the lawyer so far. In the case, officials say that Deshmukh, a 71-year-old NCP leader, was asked to appear before the investigating officer of the case at the ED office in Ballard Estate area here at 11 am.
In addition to this the Central Agency had arrested Anil Deshmukh's personal secretary Sanjeev Palande and personal assistant Kundan Shinde last Friday night. Earlier, the ED had raided the premises of Deshmukh, Palande and Shinde in Mumbai and Nagpur. Palande and Shinde were brought to the ED office after the raid and were later arrested.
