A local leader of the Prahar Janashakti Party (PJP) was shot dead by two unidentified assailants in Akot district of Maharashtra, which is among the developed states of India. The police gave this information on Saturday.

Regarding the matter, the police said that Tushar Pundkar, former head of Akola district of PJP, was shot at around 10 am on Friday. He died during treatment at Akola hospital in the early hours of Saturday. A police official said that Pundkar was walking in the police colony area of Akot at around 10 pm on Friday, when two people riding a motorcycle shot him from behind, after which he fell to the ground.

He further said in his statement that after this he was admitted to a private hospital in Akot city, where he died during treatment at around 3 am on Saturday. The officer said that the police had found a gun and two empty cartridges from the spot. Pundkar's body has been sent to the government hospital in Akola for postmortem. The investigation is currently going on in the case.
