Kochi: Pranjal Patil, the country's first blind woman IAS officer, has taken over as Sub Collector in Thiruvananthapuram. Pranjal, a resident of Ulhasnagar in Maharashtra, is the first visually impaired IAS officer to be appointed in Kerala cadre. Patil's vision was weak from birth, but at the age of six, his vision completely disappeared. Still, she did not lose her courage and kept moving forward with the desire to get something in life.

She has secured 773rd rank in UPSC Civil Services Examination in his first attempt. Pranjal is educated at Mrs. Kamla Mehta School, Dadar, Mumbai. This school was for children with disabilities like Pranjal. The studies here were in Braille script. Pranjal got his education up to 10th standard from here. Then did 12th in Arts from Chandabai College, in which Pranjal got 85 percent marks. She chose St. Xavier's College in Mumbai to pursue his BA.

During graduation, Pranjal and a friend read an article about UPSC for the first time. Pranjal started collecting information related to UPSC exam. At that time Pranjal did not reveal to anyone, but decided to become an IAS. After completing her BA, she reached Delhi and got an MA degree from JNU. During this, Pranjal enlisted the help of a special software job Access with Speech for the handicapped.
