Thane: A case has been registered against a private tuition teacher for allegedly holding 450 sit-ups from an 8-year-old girl for not doing homework in Maharashtra. Police has said that the girl studies in a third class in a school in Thane district. After this incident on Friday, the girl fell so ill that she had to be admitted to the hospital.

Naya Nagar police station sub-inspector Sohail Pathan has given information on the basis of a complaint lodged by the girl's mother that the teacher has been identified as Lata. About a month before this incident, she allegedly stripped the girl's clothes off and beat her with a cane for not doing homework. The official said that the teacher had asked the girl to hold 450 sit-ups for not doing homework on Friday. The girl is a resident of Mira Road area of Shanti Nagar.

She told that when the girl returned home from tuition, her mother noticed that the girl was not able to walk and both her legs were swollen. The girl was immediately rushed to the hospital. The official said that the girl's mother lodged a police complaint against the teacher on Saturday. She alleged in the complaint that for not doing homework in the past month, the teacher had taken off the clothes of the girl and beat her with the cane. After this, her feet were swollen. At present, no one has been arrested in this case.
