Mumbai: Maha Vikas Aghadi Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray distributed portfolios to ministers on Sunday, six days after the cabinet expansion in Maharashtra on 30 December 2019. Deputy Chief Minister and Nationalist Congress Party NCP leader Ajit Pawar is the new Finance Minister and another NCP leader Anil Deshmukh has been given the responsibility of the Home Ministry. The most special thing is that the NCP has been given many creamy portfolios. This includes Ministries like Finance, Irrigation, Rural Development, Housing, Excise and Cooperative.
Congress away from village-house: It has been learned that among all these, Congress could not find any department which is connected to village-house. Agriculture, irrigation, rural development, irrigation or cooperative are such departments which have direct connection with the villages. But Uddhav Thackeray has allotted such departments to his own party Shiv Sena. Some important departments of the rest have been given to NCP. Shiv Sena has kept the Ministry of Agriculture with itself. This has been done when most of the Congress MLAs have won from rural areas. Prior to the allocation of the department, it was his attempt to give him the portfolios associated with the village, but his hopes were dashed.
Army's eye on BMC: Sources say that Shiv Sena's Aditya Thackeray has been given the Environment and Tourism, while Eknath Shinde has been given the Urban Development Ministry. Senior Shiv Sena leader Subhash Desai will take over the Ministry of Industry. Where Balasaheb Thorat of Congress will be the new Revenue Minister and Nitin Raut will take over the Energy Department. At the same time, former CM Ashok Chavan has been given the Public Works Department (pwd). In the department allocation, Shiv Sena has maintained its urban penetration and the Ministry of Urban Development has kept itself in the court. This ministry is very important for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (bmc) because it is the responsibility of running Mumbai. The BMC or other corporations are going to have elections very soon, in which the Urban Development Ministry will play an important role. Aditya Thackeray's choice is the Ministry of Environment, Tourism and Protocol, hence he is being allocated these ministries.
