Mumbai: Mihir Shah, the primary suspect in the Worli hit-and-run incident, was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days on Tuesday. Shah was apprehended on July 9, following allegations that he drove his BMW into a scooter, resulting in the death of a woman.

Mihir, 24, is the son of Rajesh Shah, a Shiv Sena leader aligned with the Eknath Shinde faction. Rajesh Shah was also taken into custody by Worli police but was later released on bail. The incident occurred on July 7, when a BMW struck a couple on a scooter on Annie Besant Road in Worli. The woman, Kaveri Nakhwa, was dragged by the vehicle for approximately 1.5 km, leading to her death, while her husband Pradip sustained injuries.

Mihir Shah was reportedly driving the car at the time of the accident, with his driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, seated in the passenger's seat. Police reports indicate that following the crash, Bidawat swapped seats with Mihir Shah, allegedly under the direction of Rajesh Shah. In an attempt to evade capture, Mihir Shah shaved his beard and went into hiding. He was eventually located and arrested on July 9 at a resort in Virar, a suburb near Mumbai.

Sources within the police department suggest that Mihir Shah was intoxicated during the accident. He had allegedly been partying with friends at a bar in Juhu before driving them home in a Mercedes. He then took the BMW for a joyride along Marine Drive. Near Haji Ali, he reportedly switched seats with his driver and began driving the vehicle himself. The police have charged Mihir Shah with culpable homicide. His driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, was also arrested and placed in 14-day judicial custody on July 11.

Rajesh Shah, Mihir's father, was arrested on July 7 due to his connection with the case, as the BMW involved was registered in his name. He was granted bail by the court on July 8.
