Patna: At least 20 people are reported missing in a boat capsize accident in the Bagha area of the West Champaran district of Bihar on Thursday. According to a State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) official, 25 people were on board of the boat at the time of the accident. They were going from different villages of the Diara area towards Deendayal Ghat in Bagha town.

Giving information about the accident, SDRF officials said that when the boat reached the middle of the Gandak river, it lost control due to strong winds and overturned in the river. Five people swam safely, but another 20 people, including four women, are said to be missing. An SDRF official said that we have started a search operation with the help of divers to locate the missing passengers in the Gandak river.

Due to incessant rains in Bihar Nepal, the Gandak river passing through many districts of North Bihar is flowing above the danger mark for the last one month. As most of the transport systems, including rail and road, have been badly affected by the floods, boats are the only way for people to travel from one place to another.
