Major action in Agra, simultaneous raids at 18 locations of gutkha-pan masala traders

Lucknow: The Special Research Wing of the Department of Commerce has taken action simultaneously at 18 locations of the manufacturers and sellers of Pan Masala and Gutkha on Wednesday afternoon. This action created a stir in the entire market. From the old city to posh colonies, shutters of the shops fell. After about an hour, the situation returned to normal and the investigation teams continued the operation.  

Departmental sources said that the raid has been carried out following the instructions received from the headquarters. It includes all the reputed brands. The departmental teams also examined the documents of Sarin and Sarin, the manufacturers of gold mohar brand of Agra, as well as distributors of the kanpur-based brand Rajshree.   An officer of the investigation team has informed that it is being checked with the gutkha manufacturer whether the finished goods were shown in the departmental entry as compared to the raw material purchased. Similarly, the correct use of tax invoices in the sale of distributors is being checked.

The action, which was taken under the direction of Additional Commissioner Grade I of the Department Ajay Kumar Singh, is being led by Joint Commissioners K N Pal and Rajasekhar. Deputy Commissioner of SIB Vinod Tiwari and his team are involved in the operation.
