Meanwhile, PM Narendra Modi has announced the renaming of India's highest sports award Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, and the "Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award". Prime Minister Modi tweeted the news. Major Dhyan Chand was one of the leading players in India who brought respect and pride for India, he tweeted. It is true that India's highest sports honor will be named after him. Let's tell you some unique stories related to Dhyan Chand.

Dhyan Chand was born on August 29, 1905, in Allahabad. Dhyan Chand's father Sameshwar Singh was in the British Indian Army and played hockey for him. Since his father was transferred again and again, he could study till class VI, and finally, his family left Allahabad and settled in Jhansi. Dhyan Chand's father was a hockey player but he liked wrestling. Surprisingly, Dhyan Chand used to steal from hockey as a child. When he was 16 years old, he joined the Army and fell in love with hockey there.

Dhyan Chand used to practice at night every night after joining the Army. At that time, there was no street light, so they practiced only after the moon came out. It was because of his practice on a moonlit night that his friends started calling him Chand and his name became Dhyan Chand. Between the first four years, 1922 and 1926, Dhyan Chand played only Army Hockey and Regiment Games. He was later selected for the Indian Army hockey team. The team went to New Zealand and won 18 matches there, drew 2 matches, and lost just one match. Dhyan Chand performed there in such a way that he got a promotion as soon as he returned to the country and became a Lance Naik.
