When the Second World War started, he was appointed 'Lieutenant' in 1943 AD and was made Captain in 1948 AD when India became independent. He got promoted only because of the game of hockey. In 1938, he got the 'Viceroy's Commission' and became a Subedar. Later he was made Major.

Amsterdam (1928): In 1928, the Indian team participated for the first time in the Amsterdam Olympic Games. Before playing in Amsterdam, the Indian team played 11 matches in England and Dhyanchand got special success there. The Indian team won all the first matches in Amsterdam. 6-0 to Austria on 17 May 1928, 9-0 to Belgium on 18 May, 5-0 to Denmark on 20 May, 6-0 to Switzerland on 22 May, and 3-0 to Holland in the final match on 26 May. They were declared the champion of hockey around the world and were presented with a medal on 29 May. Dhyanchand scored two goals in the final.

Los Angeles (1932): Dhyan Chand was also included in the team in the Olympic competitions held in Los Angeles in 1932. At that time, he had achieved a lot of success and fame as a center forward. Then in the army, he became a Nayak after 'Lens-Nayak'. India played a lot of matches during this tour. In this journey, Dhyan Chand scored 101 goals out of 262 himself. In the decider, India defeated USA 24-1. Then an American newspaper wrote that the Indian hockey team was a storm from the east. They crushed eleven players of the U.S. team with their momentum.
