Mumbai: The Customs Department has uncovered a significant laptop smuggling operation at Nhava Sheva, also known as Jawaharlal Nehru Port, the country's largest container port. Acting on intelligence inputs, officials seized a large consignment of used laptops imported from abroad. Officers at the Jawaharlal Nehru Customs House confiscated 4,600 laptops of various brands, including Dell, HP, and Lenovo, based on intelligence from the Special Intelligence and Import Investigation Branch. Additionally, 1,546 old and used CPUs were seized, marking the largest seizure of its kind.

According to customs officials, these laptops and CPUs were imported from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by a supplier based in Hong Kong. The estimated value of the confiscated goods is Rs 4.11 crore. Following the seizure, the Special Intelligence and Investigation Branch (SIIB) conducted multiple searches in Mumbai and Delhi, leading to the arrest of the mastermind and owner of the importing firm. This action is part of ongoing efforts to curb smuggling activities, officials at Nhava Sheva stated.

They recovered 998 grams of foreign gold worth Rs 67 lakh. Both passengers were arrested under the Customs Act of 1962, and further investigations are ongoing.
