Bread is a staple food prepared from dough of flour and water, usually by baking. Eating bread plays an important role in your diet by providing many nutrients, such as dietary fiber, vitamins and minerals.

You can get bread made of oat flour, coconut flour, bread with nuts/ seeds in, bread made with various vegetables such as pumpkins, etc. The list is never ending, and you can make your own bread with your own twist.

Good bread contains fiber, which is needed to keep your digestive system healthy. The fiber will produce short chain fatty acids, keep your probiotics happy and keep your regular.

Healthy breads you can make/ eat are:

Rye bread which is made from rye, a type of grain related to wheat. It is darker and denser than regular bread and high in fiber.

Cauliflower bread tastes great and is nutritious. It is also low in carbs. It is a healthier option than regular bread.

Sourdough bread is made from fermented grains. The fermentation process reduces anti nutrients in grains which increases the availability of nutrients. It is easily digestible.

The other ways to incorporate bread in your diet to make it healthy are:

  • Bake it into a French toast
  • Use it as croutons
  • Make breadcrumbs
  • Make strata/ casserole with some kale and cheddar cheese
  • Add it in stuffing’s.
  • Make sweet or savory puddings.
  • Add it to your salads.
