Malad Station’s two foot overbridges remain shut for pedestrian movement

Mumbai: On Friday, the Mumbai Police informed that two of the three foot over bridges (FOB) at Malad railway station will remain shut for pedestrian movement from Friday onwards. In a tweet, the Mumbai Police asked Mumbaikars to plan their journey accordingly and it expects a heavy crowd at the only operational FOB at Malad railway station. Mumbai Police tweeted "Two of the three foot over bridges at Malad Railway station will be closed from today for repair work,". it added "The only operational FOB may be crowded. Commuters are advised to plan accordingly,".

Here it is to be noted that the move appears to be a precautionary measure. The FOBs could be in a grave condition that requires emergency maintenance. Mumbai Police tweet on FOB at Malad railway station:

 

The incident was the third footbridge collapse in the city in the last 18 months. A foot over bridge at the Elphinstone Road railway station had crashed on September 29, 2017, killing 29 commuters.Last month, an overhead pedestrian bridge outside the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus collapsed, killing six persons. Here it is found that on July 3, 2018, when a portion of the foot over bridge crashed on the railway tracks near Andheri station, in killing at least one and injuring many more. After the two previous tragedies, the BMC, the Railways and other agencies had carried out a survey of all new and old railway bridges, flyovers, and foot over bridges, to ascertain any dangers and take preventive measures.
