Malaysia`s government is all set to unveil the 2021 budget on Friday which is aimed at comforting the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic. It is uncertain whether the Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin`s political rivals will resist the agitation to bring him down from the power. PM has requested for cross-party support during the parliament vote on the budget proposals to be taken place on November 23. Analysts say no confidence vote would lead to the defeat and would plunge Malaysia into more political instability.

Malaysia`s king has told squabbling politicians to prioritise passing the measures needed to help the Southeast Asian nation aiming to recover the crisis. Muhyiddin survived with a 2-seat majority since March when he comes to power and his position remains precarious as the difference became evident in his own coalition as the opposition made strong moves to replace him in recent weeks. The United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) used more to run the country, and its leaders are unhappy nowadays playing second fiddle to the premier`s smaller Bersatu party.

The Budget 2021 has narrowed the focus to three key themes - public welfare, business continuity and economic resilience. Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz said in an interview on Sunday it would be a more expansionary budget than this year`s 297 billion ringgit ($71.48 billion) budget. The government has already rolled out 305 billion ringgit during the lockdown, and the economists questions how much the government can spend. If economic growth rebounds to around 8% in 2021 the government may have to reduce its fiscal deficit to 5% of GDP, or come up with alternative financing, like borrowing abroad, the standard Chartered bank said in a statement about the economy, GDP and fiscal deficit of Malaysia.
