Malda: 20-year-old man killed on suspicion of bike theft, 2 arrested

Malda:In Jharkhand, a young man was beaten to death on suspicion of bike theft in Malda district of West Bengal a few days after the death of Tabrez Ansari. After her body came from a hospital in Kolkata, a mob of youth started protesting.

The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Sanaul Sheikh. Police have arrested two persons in connection with his murder. According to a PTI report, the victim was beaten up badly by locals in the Baishbannagar market after he was allegedly caught stealing a two-wheeler on Wednesday. The video of the incident has gone viral on social media. According to the police, they are trying to identify the culprits from the video clip.

The victim succumbed to his injuries at SSKM Hospital in Kolkata on Saturday. Initially, Sheikh was admitted to the Primary Health Centre in Bedarabad from where he was referred to Malda Medical College and Hospital for further treatment. A senior official of Malda District Council, Chandana Sarkar has called upon people not to find any communal angle in the incident.

According to the government, the victim had a criminal record and was a well-known history-sheeter in the area. He said Sheikh was also arrested on charges of theft in the past. Chandana said she has met Sheikh's widow and is trying to help her on humanitarian grounds. The police have registered a case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the complaint of Sheikh's mother.
