Malegaon blast: Special court rejects NIA demand

MUMBAI Hearing the Malegaon blast in 2008, a special court in Mumbai has rejected the plea related to the demand of the National Investigation Agency, ie NIA. The NIA had sought a camera trial in this petition. The court reserved judgment on the right to allow full or partial legal proceedings of the vehicles. Earlier on August 29, the Bombay High Court refused to pass an order for video recording of all proceedings in the special NIA court in the Malegaon blast case.

However, the court directed the trial court to conduct speedy trials as per the earlier directions of the apex court and the high court. It is known that BJP MP Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Purohit and five others have been accused in this 2008 bomb blast.

All of them are being tried under UAPA and IPC on charges of spreading terror and conspiracy. On September 29, 2008, six people were killed and close to 100 were injured when an explosive placed on a motorcycle exploded near a mosque in Malegaon town in northern Maharashtra. Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, accused in the blast, won the Bhopal seat in the last Lok Sabha election. He defeated former CM Digvijay Singh.
