NEW DELHI: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge today, March 15, defended Rahul Gandhi and said there was no question of apology for his UK statement.
Mallikarjun Kharge said that Rahul Gandhi did not say anything wrong and only talked about democracy, "whereas the Prime Minister spoke at many places in foreign lands and insulted the country".
Rahul Gandhi attempted to clarify amid the outcry over his remarks that the party would not back down on the matter, would be aggressive in its stance, and would press its demand of JPC in the Hindenburg-Adani dispute.
Mallikarjun Kharge, the leader of the opposition and president of the Congress, had tweeted at Prime Minister Modi, saying: "I want to remind you of your statement made in China. You said, "Before, you were embarrassed by your Indian birth. Now you feel honoured to represent the country" Was this not an insult to India and Indians? Tell your Ministers to refresh their memories!
You once said in South Korea: "Is this what you call a country? There was a time when people used to think that the evil they did in a previous life caused them to be born in India. Before giving the Congress party advice, first view the "Mirror of Truth"!
The Congress claims that Rahul Gandhi's UK comment made outside the House is irrelevant and that the government is to blame for the disruption in Parliament.
