Vijay Mallya,the liquor baron  may be a billionaire, but he did not falter to assert amount as small as Rs 6,000 by way of perks he is entitled to as a Rajya Sabha member.

Mohammad Khalid Jeelani,the Bareilly based activist , filed the query,in reply ,the Rajya Sabha secretariat open up the Kingfisher baron , who has been crooked in a dud cheque case and issued a non-bailable warrant for allegedly laundering part of a Rs 900 cr. Back loan, frequently pocketed Rs. 50,000/month as a parliamentarian’s salary.

Jeelani said,  “he was "shocked by the findings as Mallya is known for his flamboyant lifestyle — 'living life kingsize'". The reply also revealed that while Mallya had not availed of reimbursement for airfares, he did claim all the other perks and emoluments his position as an MP entailed”.

The bonus for Kingfisher man Mallya also involved Rs 20,000/month as constituency grant between July 1, 2010, and September 30, 2010. He has also pocketed the enhanced total of Rs 45,000 below this head ever since.

The billionaire also copied Rs 6,000/month towards office expenses between July and September, 2010, and Rs 15,000, afterward. Mallya too hiked a bill of Rs 1.73 lakh for calls from his official phone number. Upto 50,000 local calls are free for a Rajya Sabha associate. Though, he did not hike any bills despite water and power consumption or medical expenses.

Vijay was elected to the upper House in 2002 as an Independent member from his home state Karnataka with Congress and Janata Dal-Secular support.

In 2010, he was re-elected for a second term, this time with the backing of BJP and JD. His tenure will end in July.
