NEW DELHI: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been criticized by the BJP for adding a love angle to the rape and death of a mionor girl in Hanskhali, Nadia district.

The BJP blames, the chief minister humiliated the victim while defending the culprits.

Sexual intercourse with a minor is rape, said West Bengal BJP co-incharge Amit Malviya. "Mamata Banerjee's vulgar remark about the rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl in Hanskhali is not only repulsive, but also unlawful. Sexual contact with a minor is considered rape. It's a felony. Her killing is a heinous crime. Bengal's chief minister insulted the victim while defending the perpetrators "Malviya sent out a tweet.

In an earlier tweet, he stated: "Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee makes a shocking comment, trivialising the savage rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl in Nadia's Hanskhali. She interrogates the victim, asking if it was a love affair or an unintended pregnancy gone wrong! Because the accused is the son of the TMC's leader." The issue over the rape of a minor girl in Hanskhali, Nadia district, West Bengal, last week took a more questionable turn on Monday afternoon as the state minister gave the affair a love-angle twist.

The chief minister mentioned the minor's rape in connection with which Brajagopal Goyal, son of a local panchayat member, Samar Goyal, was arrested on Sunday at the inauguration of the revamped Milan Mela, a permanent fair ground opposite the Science City at the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass in Kolkata on Monday afternoon.
