Kolkata: The impact of Cyclone Yaas has started showing in the eastern coastal areas of the country. Rain has started in the coastal areas of Odisha. The cyclonic storm Yaas squalls over the Bay of Bengal are likely to hit the coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal today.
Talking about the state government's preparedness, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said that "our control room is functioning 24x7. We're evacuating more and more people from the affected areas. We have set up 4000 relief centres in various districts where people are currently being housed. I would like to appeal to people to leave their homes carefully, avoid leaving without need and stay in flood shelters now."
At the same time, fishermen have been instructed to comply with government orders and not to go to the sea. 1000 power restoration teams and 450 telecom restorations have been kept ready. They will be at work as soon as the cyclonic storm is over. Our goal is to get 1 million people out of the danger zone. Mamata said 1,000 crore rupees were given in advance during the storm Amfan last year which were actually our own money and were lent to us. Last year, the Central Government did not give us anything, nor have we found any help for corona infection so far.
