Kolkata: Durga Puja has its own significance in West Bengal. The pooja, to be held in October, holds a cultural place in the state. In west Bengal, pooja politics have begun in the wake of the upcoming assembly elections. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has announced a compensation of 25 thousand rupees for Durga Puja committees this year. She has also announced a 25 % reduction in the electricity bill for Durga Puja committees.

Mamata Banerjee, CM of the province, made the announcement in an administrative meeting with the Pooja Committee at Netaji Indoor Stadium ahead of Durga Puja. After the announcement, CM Mamata Banerjee said that she would not allow any politics in Durga Puja. Durga Puja is to be held in the first week of October this year.
