New Delhi: Mamata Banerjee, the West Bengal chief minister and the leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), is actively expanding her party ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Mamata wants to preserve her party as a viable option to the Congress in the face of the BJP, according to political analysts. She will travel to Mumbai on Tuesday to meet Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and National Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar as part of her efforts.

Mamata Banerjee is a powerful opposition face against the BJP, according to TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh, who confirmed his visit to Mumbai. After increasing TMC in Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Assam, Mamata Banerjee is slated to visit Rajasthan in the first week of December. The TMC intends to run in the 2018 Goa Assembly elections. The party is also campaigning in Tripura's ongoing civic body elections.

TMC has sought the help of several 'disillusioned' Congress officials, including former Goa Congress Chief Minister Luizinho Falario. In Meghalaya, the TMC has allied with 12 of the 18 Congress MLAs. As a result, the TMC has become a strong opponent in the state legislature.
