West Bengal: On Wednesday, Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him as “Expiry PM”. Mamata attacked the PM after he, while launching the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Lok Sabha elections campaign in West Bengal, earlier today described her as “speedbreaker didi”. Rebutting PM’s charges made at rallies in Siliguri and Kolkata, Mamata said the PM had spoken "lies" about her government’s performance.

Here it is to be noted that dubbing Modi as "Expiry Babu" and "Expiry PM", the TMC chief asked to know what his government in Delhi had done for the welfare of the people of India. She further issued a dare to the PM, asking him to take part in a direct debate with her on television or in a public rally. Mamata said “He is an expiry babu. His government has expired. You (PM) said in Siliguri that we (TMC government) did not do anything for the poor, what have you done in the last 5 years? Don't speak lies every day,”. Listing out the achievements of her government, Mamata told a rally that income of farmers in West Bengal had increased three times under her party’s rule. "I am not Modi, I don't tell lies," she said. Slamming the Modi-led NDA government, Mamata claimed that 12,000 farmers had committed suicide over the last five years.

She said "PM should not lie. You claim to have a 56 inch chest and you are resorting to lies,". Mamata said her state had in fact been awarded by the Central government for performing best among all states in implementing the 100-day minimum work guarantee scheme. "It’s not my claim but your government has given the award for the achievement," the firebrand Bengal leader said.

Enraged over PM levelling accusations against her on the Pulwama attack and the Balakot air strikes in Pakistan, Mamata said "we are nationalists and not fascists." She alleged the Centre had prior intelligence but still could not prevent the attack on CRPF convoy in Pulwama in which 40 soldiers lost their lives.
