Kolkata: West Bengal CM and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee has claimed that the Bengal Police was offered Israeli Pegasus spyware for Rs 25 crore. CM Mamta has claimed that four-five years ago this software was offered to the state police, but she had turned down the offer. Addressing a press briefing at 'Nabanna' state secretariat, Mamata Banerjee said she had turned down the offer due to apprehensions of spyware being misused against politicians, judges and officials.

The TMC supremo further said, 'The members of the NSO group came to our police department four to five years ago to sell Pegasus spyware. 25 crore was demanded for this. Banerjee said, 'However, I had turned down this offer, as there was a possibility of it being misused politically. Which is not acceptable. Let us tell you that Mamata Banerjee has been continuously attacking the Modi government for monitoring the phones of journalists, politicians, businessmen and others through Israeli spyware.

Mamta further said that it is a different matter whether this spyware is used against anti-nationals or to strengthen the security of the nation. But it should not be used for political gains. It should not be used against judges and officials. Let us inform that NSO himself has said many times that, he sells Pegasus spyware only to the governments of the country, even they do not deal with any state government. In such a situation, Mamta Banerjee's claim that NSO had tried to sell Pegasus to Bengal Police, how true it is, only Mamta didi can tell it.
