A man has been arrested after two people, understood to be his parents, were found dead in a suspected double homicide at a home in regional NSW. Emergency services visited a home on On-Avon Ave in the Central West town of Oberon just after 7am on Friday to conduct a welfare check, police said. The bodies of a man and woman, both with stab wounds, were found inside. They are yet to be formally identified. “Further inquiries were undertaken and some conversations were had between police and a 46-year-old man,” Chifley Police District Commander Acting Superintendent Bruce Grassick told reporters on Friday.

Detectives arrested the man more than 120km away on Jack William Drive in Penrith just before 9am. He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for minor injuries before being taken to Nepean Hospital, where he remained under police guard. “He has some injuries to his hand and is likely to undergo some form of surgery,” Superintendent Grassick said. “There are some indications that it (his wounds) may have been inflicted by that source (knife), but we are still trying to establish that at this stage.”

Superintendent Grassick described the incident as “tragic” and said one of the bodies was discovered in the kitchen and the other at the rear of the house.  “It was quite confronting for our police,” he said. “There’s no indication at this point of a struggle, but we’re still working on that scene.” Superintendent Grassick said the man and woman who were found dead were initially residents of Sydney and moved to Oberon as recently as the last couple of years. The Oberon address was not previously known to police, Superintendent Grassick noted. The 46-year-old is believed to be a resident of Sydney. He is still being questioned by police.
