NEW DELHI: A man who was acting as an Indian Air Force Wing Commander was detained at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday, Police said.
"Feroz Gandhi, a resident of Geeta Colony in East Delhi, was detained at the Bureau of Civil Aviation's IGI office. He was found to be in possession of a 2016 entry passport. With the help of this passport he had been getting easy entry at IGI", police went on to say.
The police demanded his two-week custody remand after he was hauled before a judge. The judge granted custody for five days. "His arrest had been reported to the intelligence agencies. They are questioning him as well "added the official.
When an air force team went to the accused's home, they found a number of documents that were damaging to the air force.
Police sources claimed that they were treating the situation seriously since the accused may have had access to material that was supposed to be kept confidential and having an entry passport was a significant security breach.
"We received a request for the accused's entrance passport renewal on October 11. After 2019, the system was modified, and only the biometric method was used to renew admission passes. Requests for passport renewals are only sent by the concerned Air Force department. But he came right over to renew it. We found that it was fake" the official said.
Further investigation into the matter was on.
