The Bengaluru police arrested a 28-year-old man who allegedly extorted money from a minor boy by morphing his photos. According to the Rajajinagar Police, 17-year-old victim was active on Instagram, where he would chat with his friends a lot. The accused allegedly created a fake Instagram account of the victim and threatened to post his morphed pictures.

According to the source, in January this year, victim allegedly received a message from a person with the same Instagram handle as his. The accused used the name 'Vishwanath' on social media. Vishwanath demanded Rs 10 lakh from the minor and blackmailed him with the nude pictures. He said he would make these nude pictures public if he failed to pay. The boy began stealing from his house to pay up and when the parents approached the police, the truth emerged.

The accused allegedly asked the victim to pay Rs 10 lakh to him and said that if he failed to do the same, he would post the morphed picture online. In the month of January, the victim allegedly met with the accused and gave Rs 50,000 and Rs 1,50,000 to the latter to prevent his pictures from being posted online.

Later in February, the boy allegedly gave Vishwanath Rs 36,000 and 14 silver pieces weighing 10 gm each on multiple occasions. On February 14, Prem a’llegedly gave Vishwanath Rs 4,00,000 along with 11 pieces of silver. In March, the boy paid Vishwanath the last instalment of 25 silver pieces. Vishwanath promised that the pictures would be deleted. But according to the complaint registered by the boy, he once again received a call on April 1 for more money. An FIR was registered under section 384 (extortion) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC along with sections 66C (identity theft) and 66D (cheating by impersonation) of the Information Technology Act.
