Lucknow: In Uttar Pradesh's Badaun, a young man got overwhelmed by making derogatory remarks on social media about Union Minister Smriti Irani. The accused youth Pushpendra Yadav had made a picture viral on social media, in which a comment was made on Smriti Irani. On receiving the complaint, the police arrested the youth by registering a case against him under section 505 (1). Police is taking further action.
BJP worker Kuldeep Shankhdhar had complained in this regard by tagging the Badaun police on Twitter. He wrote that 'this should be treated, this person is making objectionable remarks against BJP MP Smriti Irani, due to which the sentiments of BJP workers are being hurt'. Taking cognizance of this tweet, the police registered a case against a Facebook user named Pushpendra Yadav and arrested him.
What does section 505 (1) say :-
To create enmity or hatred and animosity among different classes. or making objectionable speech or statement, thereby provoking feelings of enmity, hatred or enmity between different religious, ethnic, linguistic or regional groups or castes or communities or religion, race, place of birth, place of residence, language, caste or community dividing people on the basis of or attempting to do so. or related conspiracy. To propagate such ideas. Comes under this section. shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to three years. He can also be fined. Or the guilty can be punished with both imprisonment and fine.
